In July 1997 we identified that a simple e-commerce solution for small
businesses to create and manage their own Internet presence was lacking
in the market.
We developed version1 of website weaver that was an ASP templated solution,
simple to use with e-commerce. Licensed with hosting – the annual
cost was to be $1200. Sold a number –cost of sale/training/support
too expensive for the prospective sector.
January 1999 we developed a Virtual ISP (VISP) to leverage our own ISP service. At one time there were 38 ISPs on the Gold Coast, 22 of them Atnet VISPs. Stopped being viable when Telstra seriously entered the market and supplied wholesale to us more expensively then direct customers could buy.
Extract from our business plan at time:
Golden Orb Technologies is beta testing and further developing an Internet Client/Server system that delivers the following:
Control for businesses to manage their own Internet destinies without being tied to outside agencies. Features include shopping, Intranet and Security.
A solution to the burgeoning support costs associated with being an Internet Service Provider (ISP)
A means for ISPs to recoup some of their massive capital investments without having to sell their business
A regional, national and International network of Internet Provider Services that will provide a win/win situation for all involved”
May 2001 released second version of Website Weaver that addressed the shortcoming of first version – PHP technology solution. Tried to market through a Value Added Reseller (VAR) chain – had 6 VARs. Engaged with State Development in road show.
April 2002 developed SAEBR (Simple Application of E-commerce Business Rules), this an end user product for the business owner to create and manage the whole nine yards without the need for technical assistance. Tried to sell over the internet. This is a wizards based product utilising the advantages of Website Weaver technology.
